Informal open air restaurants, cooled by the evening
breeze, serving freshly cooked local food - that's Kamala style.
This former fishing village doesn't have the wide range of international
restaurants on offer at places like Patong, but it does have lots
of small friendly places to eat. For lunch, try a dish of local
noodles, or a spicy Thai salad at one of the beach restaurants.
The casuarina trees which line the beach, provide a perfect venue.
There are lots of tables and many of the restaurants have menus
written in English and several other languages. In the evening,
these little beach restaurants transform under a tropical moon.
Casual, comfortable and with great seafood.
Other small restaurants can be found along the village road. Seafood,
Thai, and International favourites can be found on most menus. The
"Gourmet" at the beginning of the beach is a popular seafood
restaurant. Towards the centre you'll find "Sala Thai"
for good Thai food.
Something more sophisticated? "Toto Restaurant has excellent
Italian food while "Kamala Dreams" serves a more elaborate
Thai Cuisine. "Same-Same but Different" as the name suggests
serves Thai Food in a cozy atmosphere.
Balcony Bar & Restaurant
Located at the south end of Kamala, "the Balcony" is
part of the Kamala Beach Estate, a residential resort overlooking
Kamala Bay which offers stunning views at sunset. From the main
road, follow the signs to Kamala Bay Terrace Resort (located further
round) Located not far from the small bridge.
Kamala Bay Terrace Resort
At the south end of Kamala Beach, the bay divides into a couple
of smaller coves, which hide a few local eating places. Also hidden
is the Kamala Bay Terrace Resort which has several elegant restaurants
serving Thai and European Food.
Slightly more expensive than the ones on the beach, but quiet and
private. Go by bike or Tuk Tuk, (not walking distance)
Rhythm & Beach
Another great spot to spend the evening. Located at the south end
of Kamala, near the Kamala Beach Estate. Serves excellent Mexican
and Thai food right on the beach accompanied by the sound of waves,
nothing gets better after a long lazy day! Open from 11am until
11 pm or later. Happy Hour from 5 to 7 pm. On the main road you'll
find lots of good restaurants like "Cafe Java" serving
an extensive ? la carte menu with excellent specials of the day.
French and Thai cuisine.
For sophisticated dining, you'll need a bike or "tuk tuk"
(taxi) to reach "Naka Flavor's" located at Baan Naka on
the road to Patong beach (About 5 minutes out of town) . Al fresco
dining in sophisticated surroundings with views of the sea. Serves
a beautifully presented fusion of Thai and French food with Chef
Akom's original recipes. Good for romantic evenings.
